Today I watched episode 3 - The Diet and it aired on October 29, 1951. Lucy thinks she's the same weight as when they got married and all characters agree they are not the same weight as before. Lucy is the hold out and insists she hasn't changed. Lucy weighs herself and to her surprise she weights more than when she got married!
Lucy also wants to get into Ricky's show but...she needs to be the same size as the costume that the previous dancer was. This causes chaos! She tries and tries to loose weight to fit into the costume in extreme ways and guess what? She makes looses the weight and gets in the show but she destroys her body doing it and experiences malnutrition. Of course there was craziness along way but the idea of working so hard and then getting what you want but then everything is a disaster after stuck with me.
When should be push to get something we really want and when do we just accept that what we want to pursue will ultimately destroy us? Such a tough question. Is there a right or wrong answer to this question? Do we just need to go through the process to achieve what we want to experience the journey and then continual check in along the way to see if it is still worth pursuing or if it is sucking the life out of us?
These days I want to focus on what brings me joy. I will work hard for what I want, but I do not want to destroy my body or relationships to achieve any objective.
it is so crazy how a comedy show can bring up so many deep questions through the storyline and give us humor along the way!
